Christine Roland (born in 1979 in Denmark) hand-builds all her pieces from porcelain and stoneware. She earned her degree in Design from the Universität der Künste, Berlin. Her background in fine tailoring and draping lead her to bend and stretch the natural material of ceramics into new shapes that explore the limits of the medium. Roland’s work has a direct purity and usefulness while celebrating the raw nature of ceramics. The collateral cracks, holes and dents embellish the beauty of the material and tactility of the form.

In all of Roland’s work, one has the sense of the ancient Nordic traditions that she has inherited. Some of her dark stoneware pieces have the feeling that they were dug out of the earth, while delicate, white porcelain lamps can feel as if they have just bloomed.
