"We are delighted to collaborate in the presentation of the first major exhibition of the British artist Bruce McLean. This book, which accompanies the exhibition, was initially proposed by the artist and Nena Dimitrijević, and we are pleased to have collaborated closely with them in its production. Nena Dimitrijević's text is the first full length examination of the development of McLean's work and provides an essential background for the proper understanding of his recent work. We are grateful to her for the diligence of her research and the time she has devoted to the publication. Many of the photographs in the book were taken by Dirk Buwalda, who has collaborated with Bruce McLean for more than a decade. His work over a long period has made a publication of this kind feasible. We also wish to thank Paul Richards and William Furlong, with whom McLean has collaborated on several projects, for their agreement to republish certain material. Julie Lawson was kind enough to assist Nena Dimitrijević at various stages in the preparation of her text. We may also thank lenders to the exhibition and the British Council, who have offered financial support to the Kunsthalle for showing in Basel."
